The Wastelands is an original experimental folk opera inspired by Dante’s Purgatorio and first in Children of the Wild’s “Rewilding Cycle.” Guided by visual, musical, and kinesthetic poetry, The Wastelands travels through places in a process of rewilding: abandoned factories, overgrown shipyards, and sacrifice zones.


The performance runs 75min with a reception and dialogue to follow.


This event is made possible through support by the Holyoke Creative Arts Center, The Wauregan, MIFA Victory Theatre, El Mercado; and by community partners Nathalie Vicencio, Housing Rights Activist, and Nelson Roman, City Counselor.


ACCESSIBILITY: - The performance is outdoors, involves traveling less than .2mi, and meets ADA standards of accessibility. Please wear good walking shoes and, if desired, bring a folding chair you can carry. - The performance includes minor use of pine smoke and propane fuel. In consideration of those with chemical sensitivities, we ask that you please come fragrance-free. - We proceed rain or shine. Please bring an umbrella for excess rain or sun. - The performance is family-friendly but contains dark themes and suggested violence.
