MIFA Victory Theatre in collaboration with Wistariahurst Museum Present “Ice and Stone” Photographs by Peter Healey Opening Reception & Exhibit

Photography Exhibit runs November 12, 2017 – December 5, 2017

Peter Healey is a photographer and sculptor. His art education began in Boston at The School of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (Diploma) and Tufts University in Medford (BS). He then worked in professional photo studios in Boston for some time, whilst developing a separate interest in scientific, medical photography. Regularly working with microscopic images contributed to the way he often sees his own work abstractly, even when a subject is clear. Healey’s postgraduate education took place in the School for bio-medical photography at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He went on to be the chief photographer for the Department of Pathology at the – then new – University of Massachusetts Medical School, working primarily as the personal photographer for Guido Majno MD, chairman of the Pathology Department. Following his tenure at UMASS, he decided to move with his wife to the Pioneer Valley, where he began doing freelance photography. Alongside his career as a professional photographer, Healey has sustained a practice of artistic photography and some sculptural work. His work has been exhibited at the University Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of Massachusetts; Gallery A3 in Amherst; University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester and at the Northampton Center for the Arts. Peter Healey lives and works in Ashfield, Massachusetts, and often commutes to New York City to work.
