MIFA Victory Theatre in collaboration with New England Public Media (NEPM) present the radio debut of "Cancionero de Luto" (Mourning Songbook) by Composer Armando Bayolo

Performed by the MIFA Victory Players with Music Director Tianhui Ng, and the Yale Choral Artists led by Choral Director Dr. Jeffrey Douma, this intensely moving piece reflects on the tragedy of mass shootings in America.

"I wanted to create a work that could provide some comfort without necessarily evoking a specific spiritual tradition or liturgy. Cancionero de luto (“Mourning Songbook”) sets six texts in as many languages. Its aim is to fill the need for anecumenical music of grief that also embraces so-called freethinkers, atheists, and other non-spiritual traditions as well."  - Armando Bayolo, Composer

Cancionero de Luto was recorded at Yale’s Sprague Hall and first premiered in Holyoke, June 2025, presented by MIFA Victory Theatre at the United Congregational Church of Holyoke, MA. Co-commissioned by SOLI Chamber Ensemble and the Yale Choral Artists. Radio broadcast narrated by MIFA Victory Players Music Director Tianhui Ng, featuring commentary by its composer Armando Bayolo, produced by John Voci with special thanks to New England Public Media.
