Birthday Celebration for Holyoke’s own legendary drummer Hal Blaine in a showing of the 2015 American documentary film The Wrecking Crew!

Music lovers will be astonished at the influence The Wrecking Crew wielded over rock and pop music in the 1960s and early 1970s. These unsung instrumentalists were the de-facto backing band on hit records by The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Elvis, The Monkees, and many more. These dedicated musicians brought the flair and musicianship that made the American “West Coast Sound” a dominant cultural force around the world…www.magpictures.com

About Holyoke’s own Hal Blaine: Hal Blaine may well be the most prolific drummer in rock and roll history. He has certainly played on more hit records than any drummer in the rock era, including forty Number One singles and one hundred fifty that made the Top Ten. Eight of the records he played on won Grammys for Record of the Year. Blaine, who was born Harold Simon Belsky on February 5, 1929, in Holyoke, MA, became a professional drummer in 1948 and joined teen idol Tommy Sands’ band in the late Fifties. He was the most in-demand session drummer in Los Angeles during the Sixties and early Seventies, and a list of musicians he played with reads like a who’s who of popular music…www.rockhall.com
