An Aztec Epic Retold

In Music & Animation

Inspired by the Aztec myth of creation, destruction, and rebirth, Five Suns tells the story of a set of gods that attempt to build a new world, led by wise Quetzalcóatl, god of wind. However, Tricky Tezcatlipoca, the god of chaos, has other ideas. Five Suns brings together storytelling, animation, and music for an immersive concert experience.

Join us for TWO performances (Spanish & English) of FIVE SUNS by Boston-based composer, educator, and administrator J. Andrés Ballesteros, with narration by Veronica Robles, a leading cultural figure in New England’s Latine arts community, and original animations by Mexico City-based visual artist Mario Martínez. Performed by the MIFA Victory Players Eric Schultz (clarinet), Samuel Vargas (violin), Linda Hwang (cello), Robert Rocheteau (percussion), David McGrory (piano), and Jolie Fitch (flute), under the musical direction of Tianhui Ng.

Five Suns is produced by J. Andrés Ballesteros and was made possible thanks to support from a Live Arts Boston grant through the Boston Foundation, sponsorship by MIFA Victory Theatre, and the Open Doors Residency at CROMA Space, a project of Ágora Cultural Architects and the Arts Action Consortium.
