Artists Ticia Kane and Elizabeth Solley Caine first met in Northampton around 1989 when their children were in nursery school. The kids have grown, times have changed but the art connection has remained. They are showing together this November at the Oxbow Gallery in Northampton.

Ticia Kane has a MFA in painting from UMass. Past artwork includes drawings, paintings, a computer animated video short, as well as sculptures. Recently she has become intrigued with hooking rugs, using similar imagery from past works, which may be abstract or surreal, sometimes both.

Elizabeth Solley Caine has a MFA in painting from Pratt Institute. Her main interest is realism, in an expressionistic manner. For many years she painted the figure. Next she became interested in plein air painting and producing larger landscapes in the studio. At present, she wants to work more quickly and directly and is currently creating vibrant, thickly painted oil paintings of fruit.

Each artist expresses a strong, personal point of view in a lively, colorful and bold manner. They have been friends for many years. Although very different in their personal artistic interests, each appreciates the other’s oeuvre. They enjoy hanging each other’s pieces in their homes.
